Are you looking for an innovative way for your financial institution to make an impact on your community? Consider one thing this Colorado credit union does. In the town of Loveland, Colorado, Elevations Credit Union and a local non-profit, Read Aloud Loveland, have teamed up to provide a fun night for children. Each year, Loveland Public Library, Read Aloud Loveland, and a grant from Elevations Credit Union make it possible for children to come to the library for Pyjama Story Time.
Last year, the event took place on October 11, 2017 and was the 6th annual Pyjama Story Time. Children descend on the library in swarms by the hundreds with their families. And of course, they wear their pyjamas. There are so many children that attend each year that the library’s usual story time room becomes just one of many spaces children and their parents gather to listen to volunteers read stories. At the end of the night, each family receives a free book and snack, provided by the grant from Elevations Credit Union. The Loveland Reporter Herald stated that last year, each family got a copy of the book, “Dinosaur Sleepover.”
In article from last year’s event, author Shelley Widhalm interviewed one of the volunteer readers and board member of Read Aloud Loveland, Phyllis Bradsby. Bradsby shared,
“‘It’s one of the focuses of Read Aloud Loveland to put as many books into the hands of children as we can and to help parents have specific examples of reading to children.'”
Which such high community attendance and excitement over the event, it’s clear that what Elevations and Read Aloud Loveland do is working. And each child goes home with a free book in hand with a sticker on it that says, “Provided by Read Aloud Loveland and Elevations Credit Union.” So not only are these families becoming aware of Elevations but they also learn that Elevations cares about partnering with local non-profits and giving back to the community.
