Fern has had the great pleasure and opportunity to sponsor another successful event, Microfinance Pasifika Conference in Fiji.
Fern was once again a proud sponsor of the 2nd Microfinance Pasifika Conference, which ran from the 13 - 17 July and took place in the idyllic surrounds of Nadi, Fiji. The theme of the conference was "Achieving financial inclusion in the Pacific". It was an opportunity for practitioners, regulators, suppliers and other interested parties to meet in a relaxed and informal manner in order to share ideas, concepts and projects aimed at benefitting clients in the Pacific.The conference was fortunate to have a number of high level speakers in attendance, including Reserve Bank Governors, representatives from the Asian Development Bank, the Foundation for Development Cooperation, the International Finance Corporation, CGAP and AusAID.
The use of technology and its ability to reach out to the unbanked and under privileged was a key area of interest. Micro Insurance was also another topic of great interest.
Positive outcomes of the conference included the promise of additional funding and expenditure by aid agencies and funders in the region, a sharing of diverse ideas and operational concepts between various institutions and the agreement by all attendees to work towards better servicing their clients and reducing the number of unbanked and underserved in the Pacific.
